The Education Centre was originally a Secondary School for Girls and from 1939 was named after the former Mayor of Stockton (1934-1936, Alderman William Newton, as a mark of his outstanding contribution to Education. A plaque commemorating this honour is still displayed in Reception today.
During the 1980's the school became an Adult Education Centre, and as time progressed it also incorporated a pre-school Nursery for local children
In 1997 the Centre changed its name to The Education Centre and from that time began to evolve into a Centre offering a high standard of conference, seminar and teaching facilities, all fully equipped with modern IT/AV equipment.
The Centre is used by those in Education, other services within Stockton Council but is also widely used by external partnership bodies such as the Primary Care Trusts, the Police and the Inland Revenue etc.
