Schools Capital Projects

On July 5 2010 the Government announced that those Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programmes that had not reached Financial Close, as is the case in Stockton, were to stop.

What happens next?
The Council is working hard to develop a strategy which will aim to ensure there continues to be excellent secondary school provision across the borough.

Without the requirements of BSF the Council can now use different priorities to reassess the whole of the secondary school estate, such as condition, demand for pupil places and raising standards.

It also gives the Council the opportunity to review the estate as a whole, including All Saints, Conyers and Egglescliffe which were never allocated BSF funding due to the former prioritisation criteria.

The Council is also awaiting the outcome of the Comprehensive Spending Review during which the Government is expected to announce how future schools capital investment will be allocated.
