Medication in Schools
Teachers or other non-teaching staff may be required to administer medication or supervise a pupil taking it. All cases should be discussed with the child's school.
It is recommended that:
- Parents should give written and signed "instructions" about the use of medication and should only supply reasonable quantities of medication at a time (one day's supply is possibly inadequate but three months is probably unreasonable).
- Medication should be clearly labelled by the parents.
The Local Authority advises all parents to speak to the child's school, as schools often operate their own medication policy.
