Tees Valley Music Service - update

The Government published its National Plan for Music Education on 25 November. This document sets out national guidelines for music education. A copy of the National Plan can be downloaded at www.education.gov.uk/publications/standard/AllPublications/Page1/DFE-00086-2011.

The Tees Valley Music Service (TVMS) Review Board is currently exploring the detail of the National Plan for Music so they can identify how it may impact on arrangements for the future delivery of the TVMS.

Funding will be available to ensure the service is delivered until the end of this academic year and funding from September 2012 will be allocated to new music hubs through a bidding process.

Allocations will be based on a national funding formula which distributes funds by local authority area on a per-pupil basis, with a weighting for free school meals.

In order to bid for funding TVMS will need to develop a business case which shows how the service will work with schools and other music and arts organisations to deliver music education and generate additional funding ? this partnership will be called a ?Music Hub.?

The Government has asked the Arts Council for England to run the application and approval process for the new music education hubs.

Timescale:

Winter 2011: Early spring 2012: Development and submission of business case to support funding application

February 2012: Deadline for funding applications

April 2012: Successful applications announced

September 2012: New Tees Valley Music Hub is launched

Schools, TVMS staff and Stockton, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland Councils are all involved in the Review which aims to find a solution which will support the work of the service and most importantly the needs of our young people and communities.
