Governor training

The spring term Governor Training and Development Programme has been circulated to all governors and is also available for download.

For new governors, training will give an invaluable start to the role of a governor, and we would recommend beginning with the three stage induction course which will provide a good overview of school governance and governors' roles and responsibilities.  Governors can then select additional courses from the training programmes over the coming year.  Experienced governors may wish to think about what has changed or what is new since becoming a governor, and there are some refresher sessions included in this programme.  All courses are held at The Education Centre, Junction Road, Norton.

If there is a subject that governors would like to know more about which is not included in this term's programme, please let us know as we would be more than happy to source someone to provide this.

Contact the School and Governor Support Service to apply for these sessions.

In addition to the Governor Training and Development Programme, governors can access an online training facility through Governors' East Learning (GEL).  The website can be accessed through http://www.elc-gel.org.  To commence the training, governors will need to click on the 'register' button on the home page and select the Local Authority.  GEL will then forward a message to the School & Governor Support administrators who will confirm the governor's appointment within a Stockton school to enable a log on to be established.  GEL online training is popular with governors and will give access to a wealth of resources.  It is not intended for the online training to replace face-to-face training, however it will provide alternate options for governors to undertake a wide range of training materials.
