School Transfers - some frequently asked questions

We are moving house - should I transfer my child to another school?

It is generally in a child's best interest to remain at the same school, however this may not be practical for several reasons.

If you wish to apply to transfer your child to another school, please complete a transfer form and return it to the school admissions team.

Forms are available to download below and also from schools, libraries and council reception areas.

My child is unhappy - shall I transfer to another school?

Children may be unhappy at school for a number of reasons. Usually this is temporary and can be easily resolved. They may have fallen out with friends or be struggling with work and occasionally they may have relationship difficulties.

Before making any decisions it is important that you talk to the class teacher and/or the headteacher of the school.

What if my child has special needs?

All schools are resourced in the same way for special needs; unless your child has a statement of Special Education Needs (SEN), which directs them to attend a particular school, transferring schools may not be the solution to their problem. Please discuss your child's special needs with the Head Teacher.

Am I guaranteed a place at the school I want?

No, this is because all schools have a limit to the number of children they can take.  If the school is full an alternative school is offered, with the right to appeal and placed on the waiting list.

What if I want to transfer my child to a church school (voluntary aided)?

If you have discussed the transfer with your child's current headteacher and still feel that you want to proceed with a transfer request, you will need to complete a form and send it to us.

Can I discuss the transfer with the School Admissions team?

Yes - please ring 01642 526605.
