Billingham Secondary Schools Reorganisation
Following consultation with school staff, governing bodies, parents and the local community, Stockton Borough Council has published a Statutory Notice of two linked proposals:
- to discontinue Billingham Campus School, Marsh House Avenue, Billingham TS23 3HB on 31st August 2009; and
- to enlarge Northfield Community School and Sports College, Thames Road, Billingham TS22 5EG from 1st September 2009.
The effect of these changes would be that from 1st September 2009 Northfield School would operate on the two sites under a single governing body and headteacher. The intention is that students currently attending Billingham Campus School - and those admitted to the school in September 2009 - would continue to attend that site for the whole of their secondary school career. It is likely that in the future student numbers across the two sites will decline to the extent that all Northfield students could be accommodated at the Thames Road site. The Council intends to use funding from the Building Schools for the Future programme to remodel and refurbish the buildings at Thames Road to accommodate 1,200 students.
