The service is for pupils of statutory school age, resident in Stockton who are unable to attend school for medical reasons
How will my child qualify for the service?
Your child must be absent from school for a minimum of 15 school days during which time your child's school is responsible for their education
Medical evidence of your child's inability to attend school must be provided by a consultant not just your GP
A referral to the service can be made via several routes. CAMHS (The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) may refer pupils with mental health problems; Attendance Officers or schools may refer pupils absent from school for medical reasons. If you are concerned that a referral has not been made for your child please contact the named member of staff for children with medical needs in your child's school.
Where will tuition take place?
Patients at the University Hospital of North Tees receive tuition on the paediatric ward from the third day of their stay.
Children eligible for support outside of school will be taught in the community or in special circumstances at home.
