Through the Aiming High Program, the government has made children/young people with disabilities a national priority.

Local authorities have been given new funding to invest in services over the next three years.

Local authority, voluntary sector and parent participation hold the key, working together under the name of Stockton United For Change

The steering group formed in October 2008 working towards the shaping and delivery of future services, the aim is to collect as many views as possible from parents about services they have received, currently receive and what they would like to receive in the future.

The steering group wish to identify short term targets and develop long term strategies side by side united.

The steering group held a conference in December 2008 which was organized by parents for parents and four main concerns were raised in Stockton. Information, Transition, Short Breaks and Key Working. Focus groups on these concerns are held at monthly intervals.
