Languages and Communications
We offer daytime and evening courses in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Arabic, British Sign Language (BSL) and Lip Reading, and IELTS Preparation. Our courses concentrate on the development of essential communication skills, alongside useful cultural information. We help foreign language learners to prepare for business, holidays or extended residence overseas. BSL learners improve their ability to communicate with deaf clients, colleagues or family members. Lip Reading learners, whose hearing may be deteriorating, learn to maintain active communication skills.
Most language courses range from beginner to advanced. None of our language courses are accredited. ESOL learners can prepare for the IELTS exam to support university entrance or professional work. There is no qualification offered for Lip Reading or Sign Language.
Most language courses begin for 10 weeks from September until December, and then return for 15 weeks from January until May, only being open to new learners in September. Short taster courses and 10-week introductory courses may also be available at various times during the year. Lip-reading is a 30 week course beginning in September, whilst IELTS and Sign Language are 10 week courses.
Classes are held in local community centres and schools. Learners with disabilities or learning difficulties can access additional support, if required.
