Employee Engagement

Stockton Adult Education Service has developed its strategy for Employee Engagement. This is in line with the Government's Skills for Life strategy, designed to encourage employers to address the literacy and numeracy needs of their staff through free advice and training. The cost to industry of high levels of literacy and numeracy skills needs in the workplace could be as high as £4.8 billion (nationally) and the cost to individuals in terms of their lower earning power and choices is significant. Employees will be offered opportunities to develop their skills in English and Maths and take the national tests.

The service will also work with Union Learning Representatives to support their work in encouraging and supporting both union and non-union members in returning to learn and enhancing their skills.

Local employers and unions have responded enthusiastically to the offer of educational provision, and the range of partners involved is increasing.

The service will offer its full range of provision either in the workplace or off-site according to the needs of employers and learners.
