Stockton Adult Education Service currently offers the following training courses:
City and Guilds 7303 - Prepare to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
This course is designed for learners who would like an introduction to delivering teaching/training and may not be currently teaching. It is suitable for those who work or want to work in adult and community learning, providing that they are qualified/experienced in the subject they wish to teach. It is also suitable for teachers/trainers in the voluntary sector or training personnel in other industries. Teaching practice/placement is NOT a requirement of this course.
City and Guilds 7304 - Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
This course is suitable for learners teaching in Further Education. The entry requirements are:
- 40 hours teaching experience in further, adult or community education
- Relevant qualifications or experience in chosen subject
- GCSE or 'O'Level in English, or a Level 2 Literacy National Test
- Completion of a Level 3 Teaching Qualification, such as City & Guilds 7303,7302,7306 or 7307
City and Guilds 9487 - ESOL Support Training Level 3
This course is suitable for learners who wish to work as support workers in ESOL classes, or for qualified teachers of other subjects who wish to support learners who have English as a second language within their classes. 15 hours subject support practice is a requirement of this course.
City and Guilds Certificate in Youth work (NVQ Level 2)
This course is currently delivered to youth workers who are employed in either paid or voluntary work. A work placement is essential for this course.
City and Guilds 9297 Certificate in Learner Support
This course is suitable for learners who wish to work as volunteers, supporting adults with literacy, numeracy or ESOL (language) needs. The course is delivered in three units. The first two units are generic and the third is a specialised unit in literacy, numeracy or ESOL. Learners may take more than one unit 3 if they wish. A placement of 8 hours in a relevant class is a requirement of this course.
Please note- entry on to any of the above courses is by interview only.
Dyslexia Awareness
This course is OCN accredited and provides an introduction to understanding dyslexia, recognising behaviour and how to help people with dyslexia. No previous experience is necessary.
Basic Counselling
This course is OCN accredited and provides an introduction to counselling. The course covers how counselling is different from advising, needing to understand our emotions (why we act the way we do in certain situations), understanding our discriminations and how to quell these on supporting others and self-awareness and being assertive. No previous experience or counselling practice is required.
