School Access Fund

University

This fund was set up by central government in 1999, to encourage students from low income backgrounds to stay in full-time education after the age of 16. You can apply for this if you receive the following support payments:


  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income based jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA)
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999; or Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by her Majesty's Revenue and Customs), that as of the 6th April does not exceed £14,495.
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Children who receive IS of IBJSA in their own right are also entitled to receive free school meals.


The fund is quite small so there is a limited amount of money available. For advice please ring 526604

If you don't qualify for help, you can still ask for help if your circumstances are exceptional.
