Fire Safety
Both landlords and tenants have an obligation to know what to do in case of
a fire. As a tenant you should never obstruct the landlord in
carrying out their obligations with regard to fire safety. If you
have fire safety equipment such as extinguishers or a fire blanket, make
sure you know how to use it properly.
You should also make sure that you never do anything to contribute to the
risk of a fire such as smoking in bed, overloading sockets, using unsafe
equipment such as chip pans or blocking escape routes. And most
importantly, check your smoke detector weekly and never take out the
battery to use it in something else.
