Housing Act 2004
In 2004 new legislation aimed at the private sector was passed, it is a key piece of legislation which will protect the most vulnerable, will help create a better housing market, whilst also strengthening the Government's drive to meet its 2010 decent homes target.
This new Act came into force in April 2006, the Act
- replaces the existing housing fitness standard with the housing, health and safety rating system
- introduces new enforcement powers
- introduces a new mandatory licensing for houses in multiple occupation
