Home Maintenance & Home Safety

To save money (and potentially a whole load of stress) it is recommended that people keep their homes in a good condition (both inside and out).

By undertaking regular checks on your home you could identify and put right problems before they become very expensive to put right.

Not only will this save you a great deal of money, it may also improve your health.

To help owners we have provided a booklet Caring for your home which provides advice about:

  • How to spot a problem
  • How to find a suitable builder if you feel unable to carry out the work yourself

Another booklet Keep your home free from damp and mould is available which provides very useful advice if your home suffers from condensation problems.

Handy Person Service - Accessed through the new Home Improvement Agency (HIA) this scheme provides a person who can complete minor repairs in and around the home, such as changing light bulbs, unblocking sinks/mending leaking taps, putting up curtain rails and a host of other things. This service is aimed specifically at vulnerable adults aged 60 or over who have a chronic illness, have a disability or have sensory loss or other problems that restricts their ability to function on a day to day basis.
