Private Sector Housing
The Division works to improve Private Sector housing conditions
throughout the borough and is split into two teams;
Housing Conditions Team
The main function of this team is to:
- Assist Private Sector tenants living in sub standard or dangerous conditions.
- Identify, inspect and improve sub standard Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs, bedsits, flats, bed & breakfasts)
- Deal with statutory nuisance associated with poor housing conditions.
- Secure and return to use empty properties, reducing the risk of deliberate fires and statutory nuisance associated with empty properties.
- Reduce the number of non decent homes within the borough.
Housing Improvement Team
The main function of this team is to:
- Improve housing conditions through the provision of financial assistance.
- Provide adaptations for older and disabled persons to improve their quality of life and help them to remain independent in their own homes.
- Reduce the number of non decent homes in the borough.
