Further Information on the Register

Through its powers under planning legislation, the Council is able to ensure that on all new private developments across the Borough, a proportion of the new homes for sale are 'affordable'.

All these homes are new-build and could be built anywhere in the Borough, for example, Stockton, Billingham, Thornaby, Yarm, Ingleby Barwick or the villages. To be considered for any of the affordable homes for sale, you need to be on the Affordable Homeownership Register, which has been introduced to ensure that all of these homes are available to everyone on a fair bases.

Once the properties are nearing completion, the house builders will approach the Council's Affordable Homeownership Team to ask for contact details of people who may wish to buy the new homes. Households on the Register will be matched to the homes and nominated to the House Builder. The House Builder will then contact the nominated households direct. The Council will not be, or become, involved in the sales process.

To be accepted onto the Register, interested households should need to complete an application form.

Do I qualify?

To be accepted onto the Register you must meet a number of qualifying criteria:

Be eligible for, and be able to afford, a mortgage for part of the cost of the property (excluding Rent-to-Buy);
Be aged 18 years or over;

Either:

Be a household in a regeneration area;
Have a local connection and be unable to afford to purchase on the open market without assistance
Be a social housing tenant in the Stockton Borough and be unable to afford to purchase on the open market without assistance;
Be accepted as homeless and in priority need and be unable to afford to purchase on the open market without assistance; or
Be a key worker in the Borough and be unable to afford to purchase on the open market without assistance.
