Transition Learning Mentors
The Youth and Leaving Care Team have a "Transitional Learning Mentor" whose
role is to work with Year 11 young people who are Looked After by Stockton
Borough Council to make the transition from school to
Education/Training/Employment.
This involves liaising with other teams within the Children, Education and
Social Care Department, such as Schools, R.A.P Team, BEST Team etc as well
as colleges training providers, Connexions, employers, so that the best
possible outcomes are available for our young people.
The role also encompasses developing new learning opportunities for Looked
after young people, for example in partnership with The Youth Service we
purpose built a ASDAN accredited course for our service users which was
designed to be fun but keep young people motivated to learn while on the
six weeks' school holiday.
