A Child Protection Conference
A Child Protection Conference is a meeting of adults who are worried about a child's safety. And is usually held for children who are living with their parents.
Questions a child may ask about a Child Protection Conference:
Why a meeting about me?
Somebody has been worried about you and has asked for help for you.
Who will be there?
Adults who know about you and your family
You (if you are old enough to understand and want to be there)
Your parents or carers
Your Social Worker
The Chairperson
What will happen at the conference?
One person will be in charge of the meeting. This person is called the chairperson. You can talk to the chairperson about things that may happen before or after the conference if you wish.
Everyone at the conference is asked to say what they know about you and your family. Your views are important and you will be able to have your say if you wish.
What decisions are made at the conference?
The people at the conference will decide if you could be at risk of being harmed. If you are, your name will be put on the Child Protection Register. This register is highly confidential and only a few people will know your name is on it.
What happens if my name is on the Register?
The conference will recommend a Child Protection Plan to improve your care and safety. A smaller group called a Core Group will be put together to make sure the plan is followed.
