Children's Residential Care

Residential children's homes tend to be different to other peoples houses in terms of their size, the number of children and young people living there and how they are ran. In Stockton we have a few larger homes where up to 7 young people live but we also have a few smaller ones where there are only 3 or 4 young people living there. Some homes are outside of the Borough. There is always a member of staff at 'home' and there are rules that have to be kept just like any house.

All Children's Homes have to have a written statement about what the home does, who should live there and the way it is run. If you go into a home you can see a copy of the statement for that home. You will also be given a booklet telling you all about the home explaining how it is run, what rules they have and what you can expect while you are living there. You will be expected to respect the rights of other young people and the adults living in and caring for you at the home and they will do the same back.

Will Someone Explain Everything To Me?
Just before you move in or just after, a meeting will be held where everything will be discussed, including bedtimes, rules and other things we haven't covered. You will be at the meeting, which is called a Placement Agreement Meeting, and you'll be able to ask lots more questions.
