Reviews for Looked After Children

A review is a meeting to discuss the arrangements for where you are living at the moment and to talk about the plans for you and whether they are working.

Who comes to a Review?
Usually, this would be you, depending on how old you are, your Social Worker, your carer and your parents / family, as well as the person who will be in charge of the meeting (the chairperson). It might also be a good idea for people who know you, for example your teacher, to come to the review. You can also ask for an advocate (someone who helps you to have your say or will say what you think or feel) to attend.

Do I have to come to a Review?
As it is your meeting, it is important that your views are heard. Your Social Worker will talk about the future plans with you before the review. If you feel unable to come to the review, your Social Worker or your advocate will let people know what you think and feel. You could also write or send an e-mail    message to the Chair to make sure they know what you think and feel. 

What Happens in a Review?
Before the meeting, the chairperson will offer you the opportunity to talk to him /her, about the meeting and also the plans that have been made for you.  

The chairperson will start the meeting by asking everyone there to say who he or she is. Everyone will have the chance to talk about how things are and if any changes need to be made. The chairperson will give everyone a chance to speak and have the opportunity to talk about the plans that have been made. Decisions will be made which your Social Worker will talk to you about if you are unsure or need extra information. The chairperson will be taking notes at the meeting of what has been decided.
