Nottingham Declaration

Nottingham Declaration

As a signatory to the Kyoto protocol, the UK is obliged to reduce emissions of a number of greenhouse gases to 12.5% below 1990 levels by 2008 - 2012.

The Nottingham Declaration is a voluntary pledge to address the issues of climate change. It represents a high-level, broad statement of commitment that any council can make to its own community. The declaration was originally launched in October 2000 at a conference in Nottingham with 200 leaders, chief executives and senior managers of UK local government.

Following the lead of the Nottingham Energy partnership, Stockton Borough Council signed the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change in 2002.

To fulfil our commitments, we developed a Climate Change Action Plan which set targets to tackle greenhouse gas emissions from transport, waste, energy, industry etc. in support of the Government's Climate Change Programme.
