The Garden

What do a family of four and a garden sprinkler have in common? A garden sprinkler can use the same amount of water in one hour that a family of four would take two days to use!
To save water in the garden follow these simple steps:
- The longer the grass is left to grow, the greener it stays and the less watering is required. Just set your mower to a higher cutting level
- By watering your plants in the early morning or the late evening , the water does not have chance to evaporate before soaking into the soil
- Increase soil water retention by adding organic matter. Invest in a compost bin - contact our Care For Your Area team for some great deals
- Ground covering plants will protect the soil from the sun and reduce evaporation
- Plant more water efficient plants - lavender, lilacs and wallflowers all require a lot less water than many other types of plants. Ask at your local garden centre for advice
- Invest in a water butt - contact our Care For Your Area team for some great deals
