The Bathroom

About one third of your average household water consumption is flushed away down the toilet, and in most cases this is good drinking water! There are a number of steps that you can take to reduce this waste:
- Fill a 1 litre plastic bottle with water and place in the toilet cistern (away from the handle area). You could save 1 litre of water with each flush. Increase it to 2 bottles and you could save a massive 2 litres of water with each flush. If you find that you need to flush more than once to clear the toilet, just use a smaller bottle
- When washing hands or dishes put the plug in the sink
- Never leaving taps running
- Take a shower instead of a bath, to save two-fifths of the amount of hot water
- Don't leave taps running when brushing your teeth, try using a cup or glass for rinsing
