Energy Saving Advice
Check - Switch - Insulate
Are you worried about the rising cost of energy prices?
We may be able to help.
The Government has joined forces with the 6 main energy suppliers and Consumer Focus, Citizens Advice, Age UK and Which? To help people keep warm for less this winter.
The advice is to:
Check with your supplier to see if there is a cheaper way to pay for your gas or electricity. You can make the biggest savings by moving to an online account, and paying by direct debit. Switching to a duel fuel account will also save you money. On average, people who pay their bills by direct debit save around £100 per year.
Switch energy suppliers ? it is worth regularly checking both with your own supplier and other supplier to make sure you are on the cheapest tariff.
There are several independent fuel switching websites - for the best impartial advice make sure that the one you choose is accredited by Consumer Focus.
If you do not have access to the internet you can contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 for fuel pricing and advice.
Before checking a fuel switching service it is best to have an annual statement from your supplier at hand - you will need the following information:
- The name of the tariff you are currently on
- How much you spent on energy in the last year
- How you currently pay your bill
- Your postcode
Did you know?
If you use a card or token meter you can still switch suppliers ? even if you are in arrears up to £200.
Insulate
Fully insulating your home can help stop heat leaks and could save you up to £100 per year.
Stockton Borough Council is currently working with Go Warm, a local Community Interest Company, who are offering low cost insulation measures for everyone.
If you are on certain qualifying benefits, or are over 70 you could have loft or cavity wall insulation fitted free of charge.
