Carbon Management Programme
The need to manage COČ emissions has become increasingly important as the full impact of the effect that emissions have on the earth's climate, and the contribution they make towards climate change has become apparent.
Stockton Council aims to significantly reduce COČ emissions under its direct control and lead by example, towards the goal of a low carbon community.
In order to achieve this, Stockton Council is participating in the Carbon Trust's Local Authority Carbon Management Programme.
We have assessed the amount of energy we use in our buildings, transport and street lighting to find out where we can cut back on COČ emissions.
The council aims to make a 25% reduction in its directly controllable COČ emissions below the baseline year of 2005/06 by 2012/2013. This commits the council to reducing its emissions by an average of 5% per year for the next five years.
