Safer Food Better Business

It is a legal requirement for food business operators to have a documented food safety management system and associated monitoring records that are relevant to their food business.  If food businesses are operating without a food safety management system they are breaching this requirement and, on inspection by the Environmental Health Unit, formal action may be taken.

All food businesses are now allocated a star rating following an inspection.  The star rating is a way in which consumers can easily establish how well a food premise is managing food safety.  Businesses operating a food safety management system (e.g. SFBB or Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), will gain a higher star rating than those who don't.

Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) is a food safety management system designed, by the Food Standards Agency, for use in catering establishments.  It has been designed to assist food businesses in complying with the legislation.

Safer Food Better Business is based on the four C's linked to food safety:

  • Cross Contamination
  • Cleaning
  • Chilling
  • Cooking

The SFBB pack also contains a management section and a week to view diary to record monitoring activity (e.g. temperature checks) and also any problems and actions taken when things go wrong.

If you require assistance developing, implementing or updating your food safety management system (e.g. SFBB) please contact Kanika McCabe on 01642 526569.
