Drains and Sewers

The Environmental Health Unit will investigate any complaints relating to drainage and sewerage, determining the nature of the problem and decide who is responsible for any further action.

Environmental Health does not provide a service to unblock drains or carry out repair work and the parties responsible will need to call out a private contractor.

Sewers and drains ownership

Private sewers and lateral drains have now transferred ownership from private individuals to water and sewerage companies (as of 1 October 2011). The transfer includes all drains and sewers that are connected to the current public sewerage system.
