Romano Park - Landscape for Play
September 2008
The first phase of development of Romano Park has taken a step closer with the award of a contract for the new play space - the 'Landscape for Play'
Following supplier presentations to local school children, councillors, Stockton Council officers and members of the public 'The Play Practise' from Stirling have been chosen to work with Stockton Council to develop detailed designs for the play space.
The quality of the submissions from the different presenters was very high and it proved to be a very difficult decision.
The Play Practise will now be working on a play space that will deliver the following aims and objectives:
- To create a play space that will be a diverse mixture of play equipment integrated with an invigorating and stimulating landscape that provides a play space on children's own terms.
- Adopt a rational process of balancing risk and benefit.
- Result in a scheme that genuinely reflects the needs and wishes of children, young people and the wider community.
- Provide challenging and rewarding play opportunities, integrating play equipment into a wider 'Landscape for Play'.
The detailed designs will be submitted to the planning authority for approval in November, and if there are no complexities, work will commence in the summer of 2009.
