Leven Park, Yarm
In 2008 £1.1m of funding was awarded through the Government's Playbuilder Programme for the development of a number of play spaces across Stockton Borough. Through the Council's Spaces for Play programme some of this funding was provisionally allocated to a scheme in the Leven Park area of Yarm.
Further to work undertaken with children from Levendale Primary School in March/April 2010 a scheme for the whole park area was presented for consultation in February 2011. This original scheme was amended to take account for the feedback received and a second phase of consultation was undertaken on a revised scheme in June and July 2011. To learn more about what was said during both phases of consultation please refer to the feedback report attached below. We would also be happy to send you a copy of this report on request.
In response to the feedback received during the second phase of consultation the scheme has been further modified to include:
- a pole-mounted CCTV camera that will be able to transmit a signal to the security and surveillance centre for monitoring;
- a 5 metre high ball catch fence adjacent to the Sports and Social Club
The revised layout is shown on the attached plan below.
The revisions made to the scheme help address those concerns raised by some local residents through the consultation process. In making these changes, together with the revisions made following the first phase of consultation, the overall cost of the scheme has increased, however we anticipate that the additional funding will be secured soon. In addition, the proposed pole-mounted CCTV camera and ball catch fencing will also require planning permission. An application for planning consent will be submitted when all the funding is in place.
This decision to move forward with this scheme has been taken in consultation with the local ward councillors, the Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture and Yarm Town Council. The Borough's Play Partnership also supports this scheme.
It is envisaged that the scheme could be delivered in the summer of 2012. Further information will be provided near the time.
