Drainage and Gulley Cleansing

Stockton Council is responsible for maintaining the highway drainage system which includes road and footpath gullies.

We inspect and maintain surface water gullies across the Stockton Borough.
This includes:

  • Cleaning once a year - in some cases we need to do this more frequently
  • Assess reported blocked gullies
  • Assess associated reported flooding
  • Minor repairs to road drains

We also inspect and maintain both roadside ditches/watercourses and culverted watercourses, though only those which run through council owned land.

For advice relating to other watercourses or culverted watercourses not within council owned land please click on the link Living on the Edge, a document published by the Environment Agency.  For queries or information relating to this document or for further advice please contact The Environment Agency on Leeds (0113) 2440191, or via their web site at www.environment-agency.gov.uk.

If you have a query or wish to report a problem relating to the above please contact us.

For information relating to public drains and sewers please refer to the drains and sewers page.  If you have a query about problems with public sewers please contact Northumbrian Water for more information.
