Stockton-on-Tees 'Bloom' awards

Stockton-on-Tees has been given a range of awards of recent years in recognition of our lovely landscapes.

Entente Florale

Stockton became the first North East Council to represent the UK in Europe's biggest environmental competition, Entente Florale. And we bagged the top gold award.

As the national Britain in Bloom winner, we had to compete against other winners from Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands and Slovenia.

One of just four towns to win the highest Gold Award, the international panel praised our "very high quality annual planting, landscaping for highways and living areas ideal for biodiversity" and a "superb example of master landscape planning".

The judges recognised Stockton's proud industrial heritage, major regeneration focusing on the River Tees and the way the Council has upgraded parks, created nature reserves and outstanding floral displays.

Support from local businesses won praise, as did local people's volunteer involvement in environmental activity. 

In Bloom awards

Stockton-on-Tees Britain in Bloom success story includes:

• 2011 - Britain In Bloom Gold Winners of the 'Best City' Category for the for the second time
• 2010 - Crowned best in Europe, attaining the coveted Gold standard in Europe's biggest environmental competition Entente Florale
• 2009 - Becoming Britain In Bloom winners in the 'Best City' category and being awarded the top Gold medal award
• 2008 - Achieving the top award in the international Communities In Bloom competition
