Northumbria in Bloom is a regional competition which is open to Local Councils, Parish Councils and 'Bloom Committees'. The aim of the competition is to improve towns and cities through the use of floral bedding areas and displays. It also takes other things into account such as resident and business participation, environmental issues (cleansing and recycling) and the quality of hard landscaped areas.
There are various categories to consider entering and for many years Stockton Borough has participated in the Town / City category competing against areas such as Darlington, Durham and Sunderland.
Stockton has received recognition for horticultural excellence by winning Northumbria in Bloom's City Category in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. We have also represented the North East Region in the National Britain in Bloom finals in 2006 and 2007, winning the Best City Awards at the National Finals which were held in Coventry in September 2007. Bloom is not just about flowers, it also takes account of the quality of our hard landscaped area, the cleanliness and recycling initiatives that exist, as well as the level of community and business engagement which runs throughout the Borough. If you want to do your bit for bloom, get in touch with us and we will talk you through what you can do.
