The Harold Wilson Recreation Ground in Thornaby is on course for a whole new look over the coming years. Local football groups, residents associations, town council, ward members and Stockton Council are working together to ensure that this popular local sports facility is modernised.
In 2003 following extensive consultation upgrades to the playing pitch surfaces were carried out, thanks to £250,000 of funding.
With the playing pitches being brought back into use but with no provision for changing facilities the newly formed steering group have developed proposals and are actively seeking funding for new changing facilities for the site, with £50,000 already secured the group have also had provisional interest from some external funders.
Once work has been carried out on the recreation ground the steering group will be working to make stronger links with the local community to increase participation on the site.
