What Are The Aims Of Smoke Free Stockton?
Smoke Free Stockton is working towards making Stockton a smoke free borough. An area where you can work, relax and play without fear of harm to your health from second hand tobacco smoke and that allows the 70% of the UK population that are non-smokers to sit, eat, drink and shop in smoke-free area.
SMOKEFREE - JULY 1ST 2007
From the 1st July 2007 nearly all enclosed public spaces and workplaces will become smokefree making it illegal to smoke in these areas. Stockton Council Environmental Health Officers, Licensing Officers, Trading Standards Officers and Enforcement Officers will combine enforcement of smokefree with their usual enforcement duties but will initially be providing advice and guidance.
How Will We Help Compliance with Smokefree?
We are achieving this by working with organisations across Stockton to encourage them to by introduce smoke free policies to create cleaner and safer environments. A number of workplaces have already introduced such policies. We would like to extend this to all workplaces in Stockton.
Council Officers will work closely with employers to advise how to create a smoke free environment that complies with the new law.
Smoke Free Stockton provides information on the support available to smokers through the smoking cessation service.
