We monitor the main air pollutants using sophisticated monitoring equipment Yarm Town Hall, High Street, Yarm and at Cowpen Depot, Cowpen Lane Billingham using continuous monitoring equipment.
The information is used to produce a daily air quality bulletin, which is distributed via e-mail and fax to various locations around the Borough and is available on this site.
We use the National Air pollution Classification that classifies pollution levels into low, moderate, high and very high and compare the monitoring information with the National Air Quality Standards, which looks at the longer-term impact of air pollution.
As well as reporting air quality we also work in partnership with the Environment Agency to assess the impact of industrial emissions on the local air quality.
Every three years we carry out a full Review and Assessment of Air Quality to check whether government targets for the various pollutants are being met and whether we need to declare any Air Quality Management Areas in the Borough.
We carried a full assessment of air every three years , the next review is due in 2009 , we also publish an annual progress report - the latest report can be downloaded by clicking below , if you require any archive reports please contact us using the links below .
The 2006 review and assessment report showed that all pollution targets been met and are likely to be met in the future ; we therefore do not need to declare any Air Quality Management Areas in the Borough
