AIR QUALITY BULLETIN TUESDAY 14TH. of OCTOBER 2008
Produced Daily by the Environmental Health Unit Development and Neighbourhood Services
Air Quality Summary
The overall pollution levels yesterday were low, the pollution levels for the day ahead are also likely to be low. Today will experience heavy rain with expected temperatures of around 16°C.
Which air pollutants are measured and how do they affect your health?
We continuously measure the main air pollutants at two sites within the Borough using sophisticated monitoring equipment. The readings for each pollutant are then classified into one of four pollution bands and is further classified according to the air pollution index [on a 1-10 scale] as shown below:
Low 1-3 - Effects are unlikely to be noticed even by those who are sensitive to air pollution.
Moderate 4 - 6 Sensitive people may notice mild effects but these are unlikely to need action.
High 7 - 9 Sensitive people may notice significant effects and may need to take action.
Very High 10 Effects on sensitive people, described for HIGH pollution, may worsen.
The hourly maximum levels for yesterday are shown below with the pollution band in brackets.

All measurements are given in micrograms per metre cubed [µg/m3]. Further information on air quality can be obtained from the Environmental Health Unit on 01642 526575; Further information can be found on the National Air Quality website [ see link to website on the left of this page ]
