Contaminated Land |

|
The Environmental Health Unit is responsible for enforcing action for dealing with contaminated land within the Borough. We have produced and published a Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy which sets out a program of how we are going to deal with this issue. The Environment Agency is responsible for dealing with certain badly contaminated sites known as special sites. We have compiled an historic land use register [based on any previous industrial use] for the whole of the Borough dating back to 1850.
We are able to provide environmental information from our database under the Land Quality Information Service [a charge is made for this service ]. Contact us if you require further information.
We have carried out a strategic review and preliminary risk assessment of all known potenital sites within the Borough. This forms the basis of our inspection program where we identify the sites which are likely to give rise to the greatest risk first.
Only one site has been declared as 'contaminated' under the legislation this site has been cleaned up and is now safe , we will keep a register of any site which has been declared to be contaminated land. The register contains details of all remediation notices and remediation statements.
