Rigorous enforcement of food hygiene legislation is important but it is not in itself sufficient to prevent food poisoning. Food poisoning is usually caused by negligence or ignorance and consequently most experts in food hygiene believe that a high level reduction of food poisoning cases will only be achieved by the education of food handlers.
Public concern over the safety of food has never been greater. Food scares dominate the headlines and the number of food poisoning outbreaks continues to grow. Training your workforce and developing their skills is recognised as an essential element in the success of any business, it also helps to prevent food poisoning outbreaks.
Food Hygiene Training is also a legal requirement, it is your duty to make sure that any staff who handle food are supervised, instructed and /or trained in food hygiene matters appropriate to their work activities. Also the person or people who are responsible for developing and maintaining the business food safety management procedures based on hazard analysis critical control points (HACCP) principles, must have adequate training to enable them to do this.
