Drink Safe

Planning a night out? There are a few more things to think about than what you're going to wear.

Did you know there are around 1.2 million incidents of alcohol-related violence in Britain per year which accounts for nearly half of all violent crime committed? So if you regularly enjoy a night out drinking, you are twice as likely to be a victim of violent crime with 1 in 5 incidents occurring in and around pubs and clubs. The Safer Stockton Partnership want to help you to stay safe, so here's a few hints and tips to consider before your next night out.

Always try to:

  • Pace your drinking and try soft drink spacers during the course of the night. Your friends won't know your coke doesn't have vodka in it and your head will feel much better in the morning.

  • Refuse offers of drinks that you don't want (you can always pour them in the plant if you don't want to offend!)

  • Watch your drink being poured and keep it with you at all times. Alcohol is also the most commonly used date rape drug, so if you are offered a 'free' drink, make sure there are no hidden strings.

  • Stash your cash and don't flash your phone, you could be putting yourself at risk.

  • If you see a fight, don't get involved - walk away. A black eye and split lip is not a good look.

  • Out with your mates, then stay with them. Friends are friends for a good reason - you never know when you may need their help.

  • Book your licensed taxi home. A little time spent pre-planning means time saved in taxi queues and you get nothing more than what you asked for.

Remember, you've earned the right to enjoy yourself; don't have that right taken away.

Stay Safe. Know Your Limit. Know When To Say No.
