Safer nights out are the aim of the 'Think B4U Drink' campaign. Promoted by the Safer Stockton Partnership the campaign includes key messages about safe drinking limits, alcohol-related violence statistics, consumption by under-18s and how to get home safely.

Stockton is a great place for a night out and has a generally good safety record - but there are nationwide issues related to alcohol and this campaigns aim is to make a night out safer for everyone with it's message of 'Stay Safe. Know Your Limits. Know When To Say Know.'

Some Key National Statistics

  • Estimated (annual) incidents of alcohol-related abuse:
    - 450,000 stranger assaults
    - 410,000 acquaintance assaults
    - 320,000 domestic incidents
    - 66,000 muggings

  • Around 70 per cent of weekend A&E admissions are alcohol-related.

  • 60 per cent of violent crime is alcohol-related.

  • More than 200 women a year are assaulted in minicabs.

  • More than a fifth of alcohol-related incidences involve a weapon - usually a glass or bottle.

  • 1 in 5 violent crime incidents occur in or around pubs and clubs.
