Mortuary Service
When someone dies, it is usual for his or her body to be stored in a mortuary until the funeral takes place.
The refrigerated environment of the mortuary helps to preserve the appearance of the deceased in the time between the death and the funeral.
Some local Councils operate a public mortuary service for their residents, however, in Stockton-on-Tees, this is not necessary.
When a death occurs in hospital, the local NHS Trust has the facilities to provide a mortuary service.
Most funeral homes are also able to offer a mortuary service, in most cases, in the funeral home itself. If that particular funeral home does not have the facilities to operate a mortuary service, the funeral director will have access to facilities elsewhere.
The funeral director will tell you if their facilities are not within the funeral home.
