A 'Design Guide and Specification', intended for use by architects, engineers, planners and developers involved in the preparation of schemes for new development, has been produced by a working group comprising Engineers and Planners from the five Local Authorities within the Tees Valley sub-region - Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Councils. The Design Guide and Specification is intended to assist developers by setting out the basic principles which should be followed in terms of providing safe, convenient and functionally effective road, footpath and cycle routes, whilst ensuring that they contribute to the overall attractiveness of the development site and its setting.
This revised Chapter of the Design Guide & Specification considers the parking standards associated with new developments and also provides an overview of the policy context in which they are set. The Chapter does not consider in any form off-street car parking provided and maintained by the Council.
The standards set out within the Chapter are based upon guidance issued by Central Government, amended where appropriate to take into account the particular needs and requirements of the community living and working within the Borough.
