The Spatial Planning Section provides planning policy advice to the Council and external organisations and individuals.

Our main role is preparing the Local Development Framework (LDF). This is a collection of documents that sets out the Council's policies for meeting the community's economic, environmental and social aims for the future, where this affects the development and use of land. You can find out more about the LDF by following the links at the side of this page.

We also

  • monitor the impact our policies are having (including Alteration Number 1 and those saved from the 1997 Local Plan) to see if they are meeting their objectives or if they need to be reviewed;
  • carry out research to make sure our policies are up to date and are justified;
  • survey housing, employment and retail development in the borough;
  • comment on emerging government guidance, regional planning guidance and other Councils' LDFs.

More information on these areas of our work can be found by following the links at the side of the page. If you can't find what you're looking for, please contact us.
