Part P - Competent Person
The easiest way of achieving compliance
If the work consists of electrical work only, you should employ an electrician who is a member of a 'Competent Person' scheme (refer to the External Link section at the side of this page) - a Building Regulation application is not required in this instance
The 'Competent Person' (registered electrician) should ensure that the electrical work is designed, installed, inspected and tested in accordance with BS7671 and upon completion of the electrical work, will issue you with a completed Electrical Installation Certificate. You should keep this certificate safe for future reference
What if I am also doing other building work?
If however, the work is done in association with other building work (such as an extension or alteration), you may need to submit a separate Building Regulation Application for the building work alone. See Do I need to apply for Building Regulations.
