If you are carrying out 'Notifiable' electrical work and decide not to use a member of the 'Competent Person' scheme, or a 'Qualified Person', you must submit a Building Notice application and the work must be in accordance with BS 7671.
You can submit a Building Notice application on-line, including payment of the fee, or download the forms to submit via the post. The fee for this type of Building Notice, is based upon the estimated cost of the electrical work, and can be determined using our Fee Calculator.
You must inform us when the electrical work has reached the 1st fix stage - before it's plastered or covered over - so that it can be inspected for compliance. If you fail to do this, you will be required to expose all of the work that has been covered, including wiring, junctions, appliances, etc.
You must also inform us when the electrical work has been completed, so that we can arrange for it to be inspected and tested.
At both stages of work, we use a 'Competent Person' to inspect, test and certify it in accordance with BS 7671.
If the work is found to be satisfactory, a Completion Certificate will then be issued.
If however, the work is found to be defective, then remedial works must be carried out to correct the defects, before a Completion Certificate can be issued.
