How long does it take to obtain approval?

We must approve or reject all plans within 5 weeks (not including public holidays) of a valid application being deposited (NB a valid application must include the correct fee). However if you require more time to provide additional information or resolve certain problems, you may ask for this period to be extended to 8 weeks.

If we require any further information from you, or there are problems which need to be resolved, you will normally be contacted within 2 to 3 weeks of the application being submitted.

Ocassionally if there are major problems which cannot easily be resolved we may reject the application, but this does not occur very often.

N.B. Most domestic extensions under 40m2 in floor area, are processed via our Fast Track procedure within 4 working days. After which the application will usually be approved, approved with conditions, or if there are several problems that require alterations to the plans, we will contact you via letter or telephone. A rejection will normally only be issued if there are major problems which cannot easily be resolved.
