Attachment to Earnings, Income Support or Pension Credits
Once a Liability Order has been obtained from Teesside Magistrates Court,
if you are employed, we can attach to your earnings. This means that we
will ask your employer to take council tax from your salary and pay it
directly to us.
Your employer must follow the attachment of earnings order by law, and may
be prosecuted and fined up to £1000 if they do not.
The amount that we take from your pay can vary and will depend on how much
you earn.
Your employer will continue to take payments until you have paid what you
owe.
If you are on income support, income based job seekers allowance or pension
credit and we feel it is appropriate, we can apply to the department of
Works and Pensions for amounts to be taken from your income support or
pension credit.
If you have any queries about attachments to earnings, deductions from
Income Support or Pension Credits contact us.
