Debt Collection Scheme

If you have more than one debt owing to Stockton Council such as council tax, housing rent, an invoice or housing benefit overpayment you may be interested in our Corporate Debt Collection Scheme. Its main aims are :

  • To help catch the problem as early as possible to stop debts from increasing.
  • To offer a free and confidential service. With the customer's consent we may refer the case to a specialist money advisor who will offer advice and representation.
  • To combine all the arrears owed by a person to the Council into one amount and set a realistic repayment plan.
  • To harmonise/suspend recovery action where possible.
